Mortgage Broker Company - What Are Portfolio Lenders?
Portfolio lenders are savings and loan institutions and sometimes banks. They usually originate loans (adjustable rate loans) for their own portfolio, not for resale in the secondary market.
It can be easier to qualify for a portfolio loan then to qualify for a fixed rate loan. If a loan officer is suggesting a “sub-prime” loan(typically require a larger down payment and a higher interest rate) check out a portfolio loan first.
A portfolio lender can also help because certain things are more important to them such as a persons savings history than income level.
