Try to pay off large credit card balances in full each month.  This starts a strong payment pattern.  Make sure you set aside money to pay for any credit card purchases you make in the month.  Pay off your balance each month.  Avoid charging close to your credit limit.

Keep only a few credit cards.   You don’t need gasoline cards and every retail card there is.

Be careful of how many loans you have.

Check your credit report at least once a year.
