Mortgage Broker Company - Closing an account can improve your credit score for a better mortgage?

Not!

Your credit score is very important when trying to obtain mortgage.  Closing an account does not help you credit score and can possibly hurt it.

It is true that you can have to many open accounts. But by closing the account you can make it worse.

The credit score looks at the difference between the amount of available credit you have and how much of the credit you are using.  When you close accounts your available credit is low, making your balances look higher.

The credit score also looks at the length of your credit history.  Closed accounts can sometimes make your credit look younger.

Only close an account if your mortgage lender tells you as a condition of the loan.

Instead of closing accounts, pay off your debt.
