To get a good rate on your homeowners insurance you need to shop around.  To get a lower rate try looking for a plan that has a higher deductible.  This could make a big difference in your payment. 

See if you can get a discount if you have certain features, dead bolt locks, alarm systems etc.  Don’t forget if you are a senior citizen to ask for that discount.

Make sure you are insuring the house, you do not need to insure the land.
